Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat on October 9. The meeting was held on the sidelines of a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers that is being held in the Turkmen capital today.
Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry says that Muhriddin and Meredov discussed a number of issues related to Turkmen-Tajik ties in political, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Tajik and Turkmen top diplomats reportedly expressed confidence in that the meetings of the CIS foreign ministers and heads of state will make contribution to further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.
Meanwhile, CIS foreign ministers who are meeting in Ashgabat today are exchanging views on topical issues of the international agenda and cooperation within the CIS are. They are expected to discuss issues related to the CIS Games, information security, development of a joint communication system of the armed forces, fight against illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors. The ministers will reach a preliminary agreement on a number of documents to be submitted for consideration to the presidents. They will adopt a plan of actions to enhance partnership between the CIS foreign ministries.
On October 11 October, the session of the CIS Heads of State will take place in the Turkmen capital. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will participate in the session that will start with an exchange of opinions on cooperation within the CIS and the discussion of the CIS chairmanship in 2020. The heads of state will also discuss the draft declaration on strategic economic cooperation and the draft convention on the transfer of the enforcement of a sentence not involving deprivation of liberty.
