On Monday 21, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met here with visiting Chairman of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (HCNR), Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

In the course of the talks, the parties exchanged views on the situation in the region, including Afghanistan, the process of inter-Afghan negotiations, relations between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

It was, in particular, noted that Dushanbe and Kabul share equal or similar positions on topical international and regional issues.

The parties said the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking is an important area of cooperation between the two countries.

It was emphasized that in order to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to increase cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

Tajikistan reportedly supports the efforts of the Afghan government to ensure security, peace and stability in the country.  In this regard, the Tajik side welcomes the process of inter-Afghan peace talks in Doha. The Tajik side hopes that the inter-Afghan peace talks will lay a solid foundation for restoring peace and stability in this long-suffering country, Tajik foreign minister noted.

Tajikistan recognizes the key role of Afghanistan in ensuring security throughout the Central Asian region and has always supported constructive initiatives of the international community to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and its economic and social recovery.

Today, the world is witnessing the bloody conflicts in different countries and regions, the growth of terrorist and extremist groups, the aggravation of geopolitical and geostrategic competition.  Undoubtedly, these phenomena can pose a serious threat to the current situation and the future of the countries of the region.  In this regard, it was considered necessary to take joint measures to destroy the bases of terrorists, organized groups of drug dealers.

It was noted, that Tajikistan and Afghanistan are successfully cooperating within the framework of international and regional organizations such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation etc.  The parties expressed satisfaction with the high level of political relations between the two countries.
