On March 11, the third round of political consultations was held between the foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Japan through a video conferencing.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the delegations were led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Khusrav Noziri and Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asia Shuichi Tokuda.

The parties reportedly discussed the state and prospects of further expansion of friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan, as well as exchanged views on regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

They noted with satisfaction the development of progressive and purposeful development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Japan in all spheres.


In this context, the parties emphasized the importance of implementation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s projects in Tajikistan.

They reportedly stressed the need for expansion of regional cooperation in the framework of the "Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue and the necessity to strengthen collaboration at bilateral and multilateral levels.  While noting the importance of continuing the peace process in Afghanistan, the sides highlighted the necessity of assistance to this country by the international community.

At the end of the political consultations, the sides expressed the readiness and mutual interest in the further development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in all spheres.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Japan were established on February 2, 1992.  The Embassy of Tajikistan opened in Japan on November 28, 2007.  The Embassy of Japan opened in Dushanbe on January 26, 2002.       

Tajikistan and Japan hold bilateral consultations regularly.  The consultations serve as an important mechanism to strengthen and further develop relations between the two countries.

The legal foundation of cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan includes more than 63 government-to-government agreements.

The Central Asia + Japan Dialogue is an important platform for cooperation.  

Established in 2006, Office of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tajikistan promotes strengthening of bilateral cooperation and contributes to the development of the social sectors of Tajikistan.
