On Monday March 29, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in in the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed a broad range of issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey in political, economic, educational and scientific fields.
In this context, they reportedly noted he significance of intensification of activities of the joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, organization of business forums and exhibitions of manufactured products.
The parties also emphasized the necessity of expanding meetings, discussions and high-level negotiations in the near future.
Meanwhile, Turkish media reports say Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met Tajik high-ranking officials in Dushanbe.
According to Daily Sabah, Çavuşoğlu held a joint press conference with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin on the second day (March 29) of his three-day visit to Tajikistan and said that friendly relations between the two countries will develop further.
He reportedly spoke with Sirojiddin Muhriddin at a joint press conference, where they highlighted issues such as bilateral relations during the COVID-19 crisis and economic cooperation.
Emphasizing that Turkey attached great importance to connectivity in the region, Çavuşoğlu said, “Many projects are coming to life, and now Turkey supports Tajikistan, in particular, to take part in these projects in a powerful way.”
Hurriyet Daily News says Çavuşoğlu wrote on Twitter that he and Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda discussed increasing inter-parliamentary contacts after the pandemic.”
In a separate tweet, the Turkish foreign minister wrote: “Discussed our economic cooperation w/Joint Economic Commission Co-Chair Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan.”
“11th JEC meeting will be held in Dushanbe in August. –Signing Preferential Trade Agreement will increase our commercial relations,” he added.
