A session of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS member nations took place in the Belarusian capital Minsk on May 28.  Delegations of all member nations of the CIS participated in the session, except for Ukraine.  

Tajikistan was represented by Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda.  

During a meeting in narrow format, the heads of delegations reportedly exchanged views on the issues related to economic cooperation within the CIS area, taking into account the situation that emerged in the CIS nations and the world as a whole in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, according to the CIS Executive Committee.  

A wide format meeting reportedly focused on measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and cooperation in the fields of sanitary protection of territories of the CIS member nations and promoting employment of the population of the CIS member nations.

The meeting participants, in particular, discussed three documents: a medium-term plan of joint actions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases; an agreement on of cooperation on sanitary protection of territories of the CIS member nations against diseases associated with emergency situations or with the possibility of their occurrence; and an agreement on promoting employment of the population of the CIS member nations. 

Belarusian news agency BelTA says a number of documents were signed by the heads of delegations without discussion.  They reportedly included the documents regulating cooperation in preventing and combating the use of false trademarks and geographical indications, preventing and combating foot-and-mouth disease, and also cooperation in geodesy, cartography, cadaster, and remote sensing.

The meeting participants approved a concept of cooperation between government (executive) bodies responsible for the management of state material reserves in the CIS member states for the period through 2030 and the plan of main activities to implement it.

The heads of government also signed the documents on personnel appointments.  Leonid Anfimov has been appointed First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive committee and Beketzhan Zhumakhanov, Ilhom Nematov and Denis Trefilov have been named deputy chairpersons of the CIS Executive Committee.  Vladimir Sokolin has been approved as Chairman of the CIS Interstate Committee for a one year term.

The CIS Council of Heads of Government was established on December 21, 1991.  The council is the second major body in the CIS after the CIS Council of Heads of State, and consists of the prime ministers of all member states.  The council coordinates the CIS member states'' cooperation in economic, social and other areas of their common interests, and adopts corresponding decisions through consensus.  The session of the CIS Council of Heads of Government is convened twice a year, normally in winter and autumn.  Extraordinary meetings are summoned on the initiative of the government of a member state.

Founded in 1991 as a regional association of former Soviet republics, the CIS now consists of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  Ukraine and Turkmenistan are associate members of the organization.  Georgia pulled out quitted of the organization in 2009.
