Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Islamabad on a two-day visit today at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistani Federal Minister Khusro Bakhtiyar and some other high-ranking Pakistani state officials received him at Islamabad international airport.  Tajik leader was given a guard of honor at the airport..

Pakistani media reports say a formal welcome ceremony in honor of visiting Tajik President Emomali Rahmon was held at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.  

Dunyanews.tv says that on arrival at the PM House, Prime Minister Imran Khan received the visiting dignitary.  A smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces presented guard of honor to the Tajik President.  National anthems of both the countries were also played on the occasion.

The Tajik president reportedly also planted a sapling in the PM House under Billion Tree Tsunami drive.

Later, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting and discussed bilateral relations.

BOL News says that during the visit, Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Emomali Rahmon will lead their respective sides in the delegation-level talks.

The two sides will exchange views on deepening bilateral cooperation in diverse areas including political, economic, trade, investment, energy, security and defense, culture, education and regional connectivity.

A number of agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed during the visit.

Emomali Rahmon will separately hold a meeting with Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi.

Tajik President Rahmon has visited Pakistan seven times since 1994. His last bilateral visit was in November 2015. In the multilateral context, President Rahmon visited Pakistan for the 13th ECO Summit held in Islamabad in March 2017.  His current visit is expected to reinforce the efforts of both sides to forge a long-term, multi-dimensional relationship.
