The two-day 6th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Tajik-Ukrainian Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation kicked off on October 26 through video conferencing.

Experts and diplomats from both countries are participating in the event to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Ukraine were established on April 24, 1993. Bilateral relations are based on a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine, signed on July 6, 2001. Tajik students have been trained in higher educational institutions of Ukraine.

Ukrainian enterprises, companies and organizations have participated in the implementation of hydropower development, the construction of transmission lines, and the establishment of joint ventures in the oil and gas industries.  In 2009, the Joint Intergovernmental Tajik-Ukrainian Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation was established, where agreements in the trade, economic, energy, transport and humanitarian spheres take place.

Currently, legal foundation of cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine includes more than 80 documents that cover a wide range of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
