The first Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Central Asian nations and the Russian Federation, was held in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat, on May 12.
Turkmen media reports say the Forum participants discussed issues in three areas: legislative branch of government: modern experience and cooperation; medical diplomacy: exchange of experience is a reliable way forward; and regional cooperation for the sake of environmental well-being and sustainable development.
The following documents were signed at the Forum:
- An agreement on cooperation between the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation;
- An agreement on cooperation between the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan and the Majlisi Milli Majlisi of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Speaking at the Forum, Majlis Milli Speaker Rustam Emomali, in particular, noted that the cooperation of national parliaments in the "Central Asia - Russia" format is of great importance and will further strengthen relations between the countries.
At the final meeting of the Forum, the results of the work of the plenary sessions were summed up and the "Ashgabat Declaration of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Central Asia Nations and the Russian Federation" was adopted.
