President Emomali Rahmon and the accompanying delegation were received by the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace in Doha on January 22. 

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties held discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them.

Tajik and Qatari leaders, in particular, discussed the possibility of launching joint transportation and transit development projects for strengthening of logistics ties between the two countries. 

Tajik President and the Amir of the State of Qatar reportedly noted the need to simplify freight and passenger traffic as well as transit to other countries.    

Emomali Rahmon emphasized Tajikistan’s interest in development of friendly and fruitful relations with the State of Qatar in various fields.

It was noted that cooperation documents signed between the two countries last year have created a solid foundation for strengthening long-term ties between the two countries. 


During the meeting, the parties reportedly also discussed new mechanisms of cooperation, including setting up a joint working group to determine priorities of trade and economic cooperation and the Joint Economic and Investment Fund.  

Besides, the parties discussed issues related to attracting investments in Tajikistan’s energy, agrarian, industrial (light industry and pharmaceutics) and tourism sectors.  

They also discussed the cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar in the fields of education, science and culture as well as providing security. 

The parties also discussed a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
