DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus -- Members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) have discussed preparations for holding of a joint Tajik-Russian forum on inter-regional cooperation scheduled for August this year.

A meeting of the working group of the Majlisi Milli presided over by its speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev was held on May 27.  

Shavkat Saidov, Aide to the Majlisi Milli Speaker for Relations with Media and NGOs, has told Asia-Plus that Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov also attended the meeting.

“Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev telling the meeting noted that the purpose of the upcoming Tajik-Russian forum will be to seek ways and mechanisms for putting into practice interstate and government-to-government agreements reached between the two countries in various spheres of cooperation,” Shavkat Saidov said.   Ubaidulloyev, in particular, stressed that further expansion of strategic partnership between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation needed new impulse, according to Shavkat Saidov.  

“The working group is to analyze a legal foundation for expansion of inter-regional cooperation between the two countries,” Shavkat Saidov said, noting that report on this analysis would be discussed at the forum, which would be attended Sergey Mironov, Speaker of Russia’s Council of Federations, and governors pf some regions of the Russian Federation.
