DUSHANBE, August 14, Asia-Plus -- By president’s edict an extraordinary session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) will be held in Dushanbe on August 17, presidential press service reported.
The source in presidential press service says that, in accordance with Article 52 of Tajikistan’s Constitution, during the period between the sessions of the Majlisi Milli and the Majlisi Namoyandagon, when necessary, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan shall convoke the extraordinary sessions of them. At these sessions only issues by reason of which the sessions were convoked shall be considered.
We will recall that Emomali Rahmonov last Saturday sent to parliament for consideration a bill on amnesty declared on occasion of the 15 th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence.
According to information from presidential press service, the amnesty will apply to elderly, young and sick prisoners who are serving sentences for minor crimes.
