DUSHANBE, December 6, Asia-Plus - Cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union in providing regional security, strengthening protection of the Tajik-Afghan border and fighting terrorism and drug trafficking were major topics at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmonov with visiting Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Central Asia Adriaan vand der Meer in Dushanbe today.
Presidential press service said that Rahmonov had praised attention the European Union and its member nations pay to the Central Asian region. “Tajikistan is interested in expanding its economic cooperation with European countries and our doors are open for those who want to have extensive economic ties with us,” Rahmonov was quoted as saying.
In the course of the talks the two exchanged views on prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the EU and Tajikistan in the fields such as energy, industry, agriculture and trade, according to presidential press service.
The EU Ambassador, for his part, appreciated Tajikistan’s support for operations of international antiterrorist coalition in Afghanistan, presidential press service said.
