The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as part of his working visit to the cities and regions of the Sughd region in the city of Guliston (formerly Kayrakkum), today, August 23 officially launched a project to modernize the Kayrakkum HPP.
The President was informed that the project to modernize the Kayrakkum HPP will be implemented in several stages. It was noted that over the 63 years of its activity, the Kairakkum HPP generated over 40 billion kWh of electricity, the press service of the head of state reports.
At a meeting with employees of the hydropower plant, Emomali Rahmon said that by 2023 Tajikistan will achieve complete energy independence.
