President Emomali Rahmon signed the law on amnesty on amnesty on October25, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Recall, lawmakers (deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon) approved the amnesty legislation that should extend to more than 20,000 people, including foreign nationals, the same day.
The amnesty was drafted by the president’s office to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of Tajikistan’s Constitution.
This is 16th prisoner amnesty to be carried out in the past quarter century. Authorities have two months to put the releases into effect.
