A number of scientific-and-practical conferences and cultural activities will be held in Dushanbe tomorrow, on the occasion of President’s Day.  Besides, more portraits of Emomali Rahmon will appear in squares and alleys on November 16.

A resolution on carrying out the Week of Science and cultural activities in the Tajik capital on the occasion of President’s Day has been signed by Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali.  

The main event – the scientific-and-practical conference dedicated to activities of President Emomali Rahmon – is being held at the National Library of Tajikistan today.

The cultural activities are expected to be conducted at Kokhi Surush Complex in Dushanbe tomorrow.  

The Week of Study of Works of the Leader of the Nation is being held at educational facilities of Dushanbe from November 10 to November 16.   

On November 13, buzkashi (goat grabbing -- a traditional Central Asian team sport played on horseback) was held in Hisor City on the occasion of President’s Day.  

On November 13-13, a republican scientific-and-practical conference entitled “The President Is Guarantor of Sustainable Economic Development and Decent Life for People” took place in the northern province of Sughd.  

Tajikistan celebrates President’s Day on November 16.  Usually, exhibitions of books by Emomali Rahmon are organized at all libraries and museums across the country on this occasion.  On this day, meetings are taking place in all military units across Tajikistan.

Tajikistan got a new holiday on April 15, 2016 as lawmakers in Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have endorsed amendments proposed to the country’s law on holidays.

November 16 was chosen to be celebrated as President’s Day because the Constitution of Tajikistan was adopted on November 6, 1994 and presidential elections were held in the country on the same day, and President Rahmon President was officially sworn in for the first term on November 16, 1994.

There were two candidate dates for President’s Day: November 16 and October 5, which is Rahmon’s birthday.

A law to endow incumbent President Emomali Rahmon with the “Leader of the Nation” title was adopted at the end of 2015.
