In the first half of this year, 4.3 thousand unemployed people registered with the state employment agency were involved in paid community service. About 41% of them are women, 38% are young people.

The Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan informs that within the framework of the State Program for Employment Promotion of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023-2027, in the first half of this year, 4,300 unemployed registered with the state employment agency were employed, which is 61.4% of the annual forecast. They are engaged in paid community service on a contractual basis.

According to the Ministry of Labor of the Republic of Tajikistan, 1,100 people are directed to landscaping, which is 25.6% of the total number of employed.

500 people went to restore and improve forests, 450 to shore protection works, 430 to improve coastal areas, 380 to clean ditches and canals, 250 to create gardens, 210 to road construction, 200 people were mobilized in the field of land reclamation and irrigation, 120 to plant trees, to carry out power transmission lines – 110, for other public works – 550 people.

Most of those employed for public works are from Khatlon region (1,367 people), 1,227 people from the group of districts of republican subordination, 1,129 people from Sughd region, 367 people from GBAO and 210 unemployed from Dushanbe.

The ministry noted that 881 of the employed are migrant workers who have returned to their homeland.

Unemployed citizens were offered 11 types of paid public works, and there are more than 40 of them in the list.

According to the Ministry of Labor of the Republic of Tajikistan, 48.3 thousand unemployed people were officially registered in Tajikistan at the beginning of 2024, which is 9.7% less than a year earlier. 46.3% of the total number are women. The unemployed form 1.8% of the labor force in the republic.

Public works are organized by local executive bodies of state power, employers (regardless of their organizational and legal form) with the participation of labor and employment agencies. According to the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the promotion of employment of the population" and a number of by-laws, unemployed citizens who are registered as employees in labor and employment agencies have the right to participate in public works.

A fixed-term employment contract is concluded with persons wishing to participate in public works for a period of up to one to three months. The preferential right to participate in paid public works is enjoyed by unemployed citizens who do not receive unemployment benefits, the unemployed who have been registered with state employment agencies for more than 6 months.
