DUSHANBE, June 17, 2011, Asia-Plus - The arrest of Khizb-ut-Takhrir’s leader in Tajikistan will definitely weaken this organization, Farrukh Umarov, an experts from the Tajik Strategic Research Center said in his interview to AP.

“This is an unprecedented case for the past decades because the structure and features of this organization make capture of its leader almost impossible,” he said.

Umarov added that following the arrest of Khizb-ut-Takhrir’s leader in Jordan in 1970 this organization almost stopped its activity in this country. Later this organization has resumed its activity but changed its views to more or less moderate.

The political analyst said the arrest of Tajikistan’s Khizb-ut-Takhrir leader will weaken positions of this organization in our country. He believes that current Khizb’s activity in Tajikistan is imaginary.

“In reality there is no serious activity but we can see that law enforcement structures intensify their efforts in this direction,” Umarov has said.

Meanwhile, the police and security structures act in a more decisive manner in this direction which is an absolutely adequate reaction to those processes that are taking place in neighboring Afghanistan.

“On the one hand the international alliance is planning to withdraw forces from Afghanistan, on the other hand we have an intensified counter-extremist efforts as a result of which extremists are forced to move to the north, directly to Tajik state border and borders of other Central Asian countries. As a result these organizations can expand or even change the area of their activity,” he said, adding that actions of Tajik security forces in this direction look quite adequate and effective.
