DUSHANBE, December 10, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Office of the United States Embassy partnered with The Emergence Group (TEG) to provide “Defensive Tactics – Instructor Development” courses to representatives of Tajik law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe said.
The training was funded by INL and conducted at the newly renovated Police Training Center’s Physical Training and Tactics Facility. Representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, MVD Academy, Police Training Center, Border Guards, the State Committee of National Security, Drug Control Agency, Traffic Police, Dushanbe Airport and Railroad Emergency Response/Security Service, Fire Department Emergency Response, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Teams from Dushanbe, Sughd province, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region participated in the training.
International experts from TEG and national instructors trained participants on the proper use of force and safety techniques based on internationally recognized best practices and to develop institutional capacity building. Female law enforcement officers were among those selected for the “Defensive Tactics – Instructor Development” course which provided the knowledge and skills to deliver safe and effective training.
The U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration section of the U.S. Embassy organized counter-narcotics training for 25 members of the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. The training, held December 5-9, included sessions on interviewing, report writing, evidence handling, and drug identification. Additional training courses are being planned for 2012.
The United States Government is committed to continuing its support and assistance to the Tajik law enforcement community. Since 1992, the U.S. Government has provided more than $984 million in assistance programs to enhance law enforcement and security systems, economic growth, democratic institutions, health care, and education in Tajikistan.
