DUSHANBE, November 18, 2011, Asia-Plus – On Thursday November 17, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Ms. Qobilamo Ghulomshoyeva, Chairperson of Rushon district, Gorno Badakhshan signed a grant contract for “Project for Rehabilitation of Community Center in Rushon District.”
According to Japan’s Embassy, the Government of Japan will support this project for the total amount of US$111,974 in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The Community Center was established in the center of Rushon district more than 50 years ago. The center used to play an important role for local people, allowing them to participate in social and cultural activities as well as job trainings. However, the Center is currently not available because the facility becomes worn-out with water leaks from ceilings and windows without glasses.
The whole building of the Community Center including doors, windows, walls, roofs as well as the electric system will be rehabilitated in the framework of the project. The renewed Community Center will enable more than 5,000 people to have access to a safe and comfortable space for sharing information, exchanging ideas and conducting trainings for income generation activities in Rushon district, GBAO region.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$20.6 million for 278 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
