DUSHANBE, December 6, 2011, Asia-Plus -- A two-day training for Tajik public institutions on individual applications within the frameworks of the United Nations human rights mechanisms is concluding in Dushanbe today.

Organized by the Regional Department of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Tajikistan, the event has brought together representatives of civil society and advocacy to discuss issues related to international system of protection of human rights, UN bodies on human rights, the universal periodic review (UPR) and special procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Council, procedures of acceptance of individual reports by UN bodies and pronouncement of decisions on them, advanced practices of states on cooperation with international and regional mechanisms on human rights and execution of their decisions, discussion of the possible national mechanism of implementation of implementation of recommendations the UN human rights agencies.

The main objective of the seminar is to raise awareness of representatives of public institutions, judiciary and national human rights institutions of procedures of consideration of individual reports by the UN human rights agencies and obligations of member nations within the frameworks of the UN conventions on human rights as well as to improve cooperation with the relevant UN mechanisms, the source said.

Similar seminars are conducted by OHCHR in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
