“The Project for the Reconstruction of School No.11 in Shaimak Village of Murgab District” with the total amount of US$85,792 supported by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully completed.
Shaimak village of Murgab district with the population of 730 people is located in mountain area near Tajikistan-China and Tajikistan-Afghanistan borders. Most of people in Shaimak village make a living by grazing. There were about 120 students at School No 11in Shaimak village in 2006 and half of them stayed in a dormitory near the school over night because their parents couldn’t return home from grazing at night time. In 2006, a heavy storm hit this area and caused serious damage to the main building of the school. Because of the damage, it was impossible to have the lessons at the main school building and the dormitory had been used as classrooms instead. As a result, some boarding students had to use a dining hall for staying nights.
The project for construction of the new school building of 383m², including two staff rooms and six classrooms was implemented by ACTED under support of Japanese grant. The new school ensured proper and safe educational environment. It also enabled the boarding students to stay at the dormitory again. Improvement of education environment by the project has contributed to long-term positive influence on grow of youth and development of Murgab district.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 21.1 million for 282 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
