DUSHANBE, December 14, 2012, Asia-Plus – To-date, the Government of Japan has supported numerous projects in various spheres in Tajikistan, in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, within GGP agenda, on Thursday December 13, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe signed grant contracts for 5 different projects to support the education sector in Spitamen and Shouroobod districts, as well as to enhance the health sector in Shahrinav, Murgab and Ishkashim districts.  The projects to be implemented through GGP’s grants are as follows:

“The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.28 in Nov Jamoat, Spitamen District”, signed with Mr. Muhtadi Majitov, Chairperson of Spitamen district, for the amount of US$113,439.

“The Project for Construction of Secondary School No.4 in Doghiston Village, Doghiston Jamoat, Shouroobod District”, signed with Mr. Amirkhon Ikromov, Chairperson of Shouroobod district, for the amount of US$111,889.

“The Project for Improvement of Surgical Department of the Central Hospital in Shahrinav District”, signed with Mr. Ismatullo Zaydov, Chairperson of Shahrinav District, for the amount of US$107,017.

“The Project for rehabilitation of Central hospital in Ishkashim district and its provision with medical equipment”, signed with Mr. Akramkhon Kuchakshoyev, Chairperson of Ishkashim district, for the amount of US$108,655.

“The Project for Improvement of Regional Hospital in Qara-Kul Jamoat, Murgab District”, signed with Mr. Ernazar Satarov, First Deputy Chairperson of Murgab district, for the amount of US$120,373.

These projects will be carried out by the hands of the people of Tajikistan.  Improvement in the education sector will have a long-term positive impact on the lives of the children as well as on the local communities in the areas.  Moreover, being able to receive adequate and reliable medical service is a basic human right for all the people, and these projects will bring people one step closer to meet their needs.  The government of Japan is dedicated to continue its support to create a better society for and together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 22 million for 290 projects in Tajikistan.
