DUSHANBE, December 20, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- The collection of the domestic waste disposal fees from the public and enterprises remains a serious problem.

Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev stated this at the session of the Dushanbe local council (Majlis) on December 20.

The capital mayor, in particular, noted that 984,000 tons of domestic waste have been removed from Dushanbe over the first eleven months of this year, which is 66,300 tons more than in the same period last year.

The mayor also noted that Unit Export Limited (United Kingdom) had won a tender for procurement of garbage trucks, water carts and goods transport.  The company is expected to deliver 22 vehicles to the Tajik capital.

Ubaidulloyev stressed that after completion of components of the Dushanbe Solid Waste Management Project in 2013 the solid waste processing project would be launched in the Tajik capital.

The Dushanbe Solid Waste Management Project objectives are to assist Dushanbe to: rehabilitate the existing landfill site and collection points; supply new landfill equipment; and supply new collection vehicles, containers and equipment.  Other objectives include assisting the city authorities to reorganize and improve solid waste collection and disposal in Dushanbe.
