DUSHANBE, January 29, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- The Government of Japan has supported numerous projects in various spheres in Tajikistan within the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Within the GGP agenda, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe will sign grant contracts for 5 different projects to support the education sector in Vahdat, Kulob, and Tursunzoda districts, to develop the agrarian sector in Muminobod district, and to improve the living conditions of women and their families around the city of Norak on January 30, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe said.

The projects to be implemented through GGP’s grants are as follows: 1) “The Project for Construction School in Korezi Poyon Village, Ziraki Jamoat of Kulob District,” will be signed with Mr. Abdughaffor Rahmonov, Mayor of Kulob, for the amount of US$111,421; 2) “The Project for Construction of Women Center in Norak city,” will be signed with Mr. Homid Abdulloyev, Mayor of Norak, for the total amount of US$ 110,653; 3) “The Project for Provision of the School Equipment for Secondary Schools in Vakhdat Township,” will be signed with Ms. Zebo Oymatova, Chairperson of the Federation of Karasu Women, for the amount of US$104,844; 4) “The Project for Provision of Agricultural Machinery to Balkhobi Jamoat of Muminobod District,” will be signed with Mr. Pirmad Zaripov, Chairperson of Muminobod district, for the amount of US$108,572; and 5) “The Project for Provision of School Equipment of 6 Secondary Schools in Tursunzoda City,” will be signed with Mr. Davlatshoh Gulmahmadov, Chairperson of Tursunzoda district, for the amount of US$108,910.

These projects will be carried out by the hands of the people of Tajikistan, press release issued by Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe said.  Improvement in the education sector will provide better study environment for the students and will have a long-term positive impact on the lives of the children, and the promotion of the women center is expected to raise awareness on gender issues and to help the federation create a better society for women in the local communities.  Likewise, development in agriculture sector will assuredly improve the economic conditions of the farmers in the area.

The government of Japan is reportedly committed to support Tajikistan to take the necessary measures to ensure the basic human rights and the betterment of people’s life.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 22.6 million for 295 projects in Tajikistan.
