DUSHANBE, August 9, 2014, Asia-Plus – The 89-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War of 194-1945 from Tajikistan, Hakim Halimov, has visited places where he fought.

According to the Volgograd governor’s official website, the 89-year-old participant of the Battle of Stalingrad, Hakim Halimov, arrived in Volgograd on August 8.  His dream has reportedly come true thanks to Russian President Putin’s help.

Tajik war veteran asked the Russian president to help with organization of travel to Volgograd at the Victory Day Parade on May 9.

According to Hakim Halimov, it was his only dream to see the regenerated Stalingrad.

Within the next few days, Tajik war veteran will meet the acting governor of the Volgograd oblast, Andrei Bocharov.  Hakim Halimov is also scheduled to visit Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Kransy Oktyabr (the Volgograd metallurgical plant), which he was defending in 1942.

Born in 1925, Hakim Halimov was drafted into Red Army in 1942.  He has lived in Dushanbe since 1949.
