During the last month 20 mosques, which operated without registration, received permission for legal functioning in Vasse district.

According to the Head of Kulab regional office on religious affairs, Sharif Abdulhamidov, this also did not resolve the problem with religious buildings in the district.

According to him, 26 other mosques in Vasse district operate with a permit. “We temporarily shut them down, fine the clergy, but they are not in a hurry to get technical documents,” he noted, adding that 138 mosques still operate without documents in 10 districts.

However, according to Mr. Abdulhamidov, the most problematic situation on freedom of conscience and administration of religious needs is in Danghara district. “There are 69 registered mosques in Danghara district, but only one cathedral mosque in the District center has the right to hold collective Friday prayers,” he said, adding that on Fridays, and especially on religious holidays, the congregation coming from villages is forced to come to the District center, or even go to cathedral mosques of other districts.
