Tajikistan’s population over the last year rose by 2.3 per cent, according to the information from the Statistics Agency under the President of Tajikistan.
According to the Statistics Agency, the country’s population rose above 8 million and 246 thousand, which is 2.3 per cent higher than the same period in 2013.
The most notable population increase is recorded in Khatlan province and in the Districts of Central Subordination, where the population rose by 2.5 per cent in a year up to 2 million 934 thousand and 1 million 898 thousand respectively.
Population of Soghd province rose by 2.2 per cent, which amounts to 2 million 422 million for the beginning of July.
Meanwhile, the population in Dushanbe rose by 1.7 per cent in a year’s time. Currently almost 780 thousand people live in the capital.
The lowest population growth in the country is recorded in Badakhshan province – 0.9 per cent. In this province, which consists of almost half of Tajikistan’s territory, the population consists of a little over 213 thousand.
