QURGHON TEPPA, September 18, Asia-Plus -- The authorities of the southern Khatlon province suggest that amendments should be made to the country’s law on privatization of industrial enterprises.

Deputy governor of Khatlon, Rajabalai Rajabov, made this remark Tuesday (September 16) at a meeting with local entrepreneurs in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province.

Rajabov, in particular, noted that many of industrial enterprises, including brickworks in Kulob, cotton-ginning factory Pakhtai Kulob, cotton ginning-factory Elita (Elite) in the Vakhsh district, asphalt plant in the Rumi district, and Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Tajikkhimprom in the Yovon district, which were privatized in the early 2000s, have not been in operation.

“Managers of these enterprises have not taken measures to introduce them into operation,” said Rajabov.  “These enterprises do not participate in development of the region’s industrial sector and they have huge electricity debts.”

In this connection, the Khatlon regional legislature (Majlis) has applied to the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management proposing to make amendments to the country’s law on privatization of industrial enterprises, Khatlon official added.
