DUSHANBE, November 19, 2014, Asia-Plus – Days of Tolerance are being held at 22 schools in border areas of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, primarily in Sughd (Tajikistan) and Batken (Kyrgyzstan) provinces.
The events are dedicated to International Day for Tolerance and will run through November 23.
Days of Tolerance are a completion phase of a joint three-stage project aiming at reducing the level of conflicts and tension in the border areas.
The project is being held by fourteen public associations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which are members of the Ferghana Valley NGO Network “Dolina Mira” (Valley of Peace).
Established in 2004, the Ferghana Valley NGO Network “Dolina Mira” comprises 26 NGOs from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The International Day for Tolerance is an annual observance declared by UNESCO in 1995 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance. It is observed on November 16. Every year various conferences and festivals are organized in the occasion of International Day for Tolerance.
