KHUJAND, January 30, 2015, Asia-Plus -- A concluding meeting of the Public Council of the Movement for National Unity and Revival of Tajikistan (MNURT)’s  Office in Sughd, presided over by Sughd governor Abdurahmon Qodiri, was held in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province on January 30.

According to the Sughd regional administration press center, the first deputy head of the MNURT’s office in Sughd, Abdujalil Bobokalonov, reported on the results of past year’s work  

The number of the MNURT primary organizations in the country has reportedly reached 7,476.  They now unite a total of than 1.3 million people.

In Sughd province, a total number of members of the MNURT primary organizations is more than 700,000 people.

The Movement for National Unity and Revival of Tajikistan (MNURT) is Tajikistan''s largest political movement.  It is sponsored by the government and chaired by President Emomali Rahmon.  The MNURT was formed in July 1997 and registered that August.  It declared its aim as the unification of “different social layers and forces of Tajikistan and the establishment of a stable civil accord, mutual trust and agreement.”

The movement incorporates representatives of all regions and political parties and associations.  The MNURT is ruled by a general assembly of founding organizations and governed by an executive council of elected and appointed representatives of all member organizations.  Its chair, President Rahmon, heads an executive committee elected by this council.
