KHUJAND, Aril 13, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Over the first three months of this year, fishing farms in the northern province of Sughd have produced 28 tons of fishes to a total amount of 521,100 somoni, which was 5.7 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Sughd regional administration.
“Silver carp have accounted for 13.4 percent of the total amount of fishes produced over the report period, wild carps – 8.3 percent, grass carps – 4.4 percent, and pike perches – 15.4 percent,” said Maroufjon Sharipov, the head of the Sughd livestock farming department. “Meanwhile, roaches, asps, and sabrefishes have accounted for 57.5 percent of the total amount of fishes produced in the province in January-March this year.”
According to him, 17 fishing farms now operate in northern Tajikistan. Sughdmohi, which is the largest fishing farm in the area, provides 85 percent of the total fish production in Sughd.
