The World Robot Olympiad 2019 (RO 2019) is taking place in the Hungarian city of Gyor from November 8-10.  Selected teams from all over the world are participating in the WRO 2019 International Final, organized by Edutus University.

Tajikistan participates in the World Robot Olympiad for the first time.

Mehron Dilshodov, the head of the League of Robots Dushanbe, says members of Tajikistan’s team participating in the WO 2019 have been competitively selected during the qualifying national stage that was held in summer this year.

“Twenty teams participated in the qualifying stage and participants taking the first, second and third places have been selected to represent Tajikistan in the World Robot Olympiad,” Dilshodov said.

This year's WRO theme is SMART Cities. The season challenges are connected to new concepts, new ideas and new technologies that help building the cities of the future.

Teams participate in four different categories (Regular, Open, Football and ARC) with different age groups.

The Regular Category is a challenge based competition. Students must design, construct and program their robots to solve specific challenges on a field. Points are scored for completed tasks.

The Open Category is a project based competition. Students create their own intelligent robotics solution relating to the current theme of the season. Teams will present their project and their robot model to a group of judges on the competition day.

In the Football Category teams of two autonomous robots play football (soccer).  Every year little changes are introduced for the game to motivate the students to keep on developing their robots.

The Advanced Robotics Challenge (ARC) is a new category.  The games are designed to test older and more experienced student’s engineering and programming skills to the limit.

Starting in 2004, World Robot Olympiad has developed to a truly global competition.  WRO tournaments are organized in more than 65 countries and each season new countries join the movement.
