45 Tajik nationals stuck in India due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic returned home on May 27 by a special flight operated by Air India, according to the Tajik MFA information department.
The flight was reportedly organized in cooperation with the Indian authorities.
Indian nationals stranded in Tajikistan due to the COVID-19 pandemic were carried to New Delhi by this flight.
Meanwhile, the fate of remaining Tajik nationals stuck in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic remains unknown.
Recall, Tajik nationals stuck in India wrote a letter to Asia-Plus on April19, noting that more than 90 Tajik nationals have been stuck in India due to the new coronavirus pandemic. Among them are elderly people, patients with diabetes and hypertension, cancer patients, students and children.
On May 7, Tajikistan’s privately owned air company Somon Air delivered a large consignment of medicines from New Delhi to Dushanbe.
Tajikistan began bringing back its nationals from other countries on May 20. Over the past several days, Tajik nationals have been brought back from various cities of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United States. A flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is scheduled for May 29.
All Tajik nationals arriving in the country are tested for COVID-19, an official source with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus in an interview.
