Dushanbe is making preparations for a military parade dedicated to the founding of the National Guard of Tajikistan.

A source within the Tajik power-wielding structures says the military parade dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the founding of the National Guard of Tajikistan will take place in Dushanbe on September 4.  

According to him, about 6,000 servicemen will be on the military parade that will be held in the territory of one of military units of the National Guard deployed in Dushanbe.

President Emomali Rahmon is expected to attend celebrations dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Tajik National Guard.   

The National Guard, formerly called the Brigade of Special Mission and Presidential Guard, also called the National Guard, is a service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, under direct command of the President of Tajikistan. Their primary task is ensuring public safety and security, which is similar to the tasks of the Tajik Internal Troops.  The National Guard also takes part in ceremonial duties in Tajikistan.

Formed on December 4, 1992, it was originally a special forces unit known as the Brigade of Special Mission under the Tajik Interior Ministry.  On January 17, 1995, President Emomali Rahmon changed its name from the Brigade of Special Mission to the Presidential Guard on January 17, 1995.  The first commander of the Presidential Guard was Ghaffor Mirzoyev, who directed it until 2004.  In January 2004, it was renamed to the National Guard.

On November 20, 2013, the National Guard was placed under the command of Major-General Bobojon Jamolzoda.  A military parade dedicated to the founding of the National Guard. Took place on October 2, 2014.
