Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali has ordered heads of Dushanbe’s districts and relevant municipal agencies to begin preparations for the spring conscription campaign now, according to the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

By mayor’s order the Dushanbe city military registration and enlistment office must specify the exact number of the capital's conscripts until March 10, 2021.

The mayor also orders heads of mahalla (a residential quarter of a city, which typically formed a community) to submit accurate lists of young men of draft age to the military registration and enlistment offices.

Higher educational institutions, vocational-technical schools and enterprises based in Dushanbe are also ordered to take necessary measures to organize the spring conscription campaign at the proper level.

The spring conscription campaign is held from April through May.  The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve.  The same decree provides for the retirement from active duty of soldiers and sergeants whose service under conscription is over.

Young Tajiks can avoid or postpone military service if they are ill, studying at university, an only son, or if they have two children.
