The head of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting under the Government of Tajikistan, Nouriddin Said, told reporters in Dushanbe on February 10 that a new TV channel will be launched in the country this year.

According to him, the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting plans to launch the “Ilm va Tabiat” (Science and Nature) TV Channel before the Navrouz festival, which is celebrated in Tajikistan on March 21.

“The repair to the building that will host the “Ilm va Tabiat” TV Channel is nearing completion.  All necessary equipment has been purchased and we will appoint the leadership of the TV channel within the next few days,” the head of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting said.

Recall, Nouriddin Said told reporters on July 22 last year that the “Ilm va Tabiat” TV Channel “will be launched within the next few days, while the tourism and handicrafts TV channel will be launched at the end of this year.”

Nouriddin Said also noted yesterday that the “Tojikiston” TV Channel plans to launch several new programs in the near future: Bazmi Khanda (Humor Party), Farhangi Tojikon (the Culture of the Tajiks); Neshtar (Sting – critical program); and some others.

According to him, 13 national TV channels, 33 private TV stations, 10 national radio stations, 22 private radio stations and 12 audiovisual production studios now operate in the country.

“To-date, 70 percent of Tajikistan’s population has access to digital television,” Nouriddin Said added.
