Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali has promised to donate apartment to Tajik athletes who will win Olympic medals in Tokyo, according to the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan (NOC).

Rustam Emomali reportedly stated that gold medal winner would receive a three-bedroom apartment, silver medal winner – a two-bedroom apartment, and bronze medal winner – a one-bedroom apartment.

The National Olympic Committee itself set prize money to Tajik athletes who will win Olympic medals in Tokyo.  Tajik Olympic gold winners will receive 300,000 somonis, silver winners will receive 250,000 somonis and bronze winners – 200,000 somonis.  

Ten athletes are representing Tajikistan at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Eight Tajik athletes have qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics: judoka Somon Mahmadbekov (-73kg); judoka Akmal Murodov (-81kg); judoka Komronsho Ustopiriyon (-90kg); judoka Temur Rahimov (-100kg); boxer Bahodur Usmonov (-64kg); boxer Shabbos Nematulloyev (-81kg); boxer Siyovush Zuhurov; and track and field athlete Ildar Ahmadiyev.

Besides, two swimmers – Olimjon Ishanov (freestyle, 50 m) and Anastasiya Tyurian (freestyle, 50 m) -- will participate in the 2020 Olympics according to the quota of the International Federation.

The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and also known as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event that kicked off on July 23 and will last till August 8, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.  The 2020 Summer Olympics is being held under the state of emergency and without spectators.  Originally scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020, the event was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and not allows international spectators.  Despite being rescheduled for 2021, the event retains the Tokyo 2020 name for marketing and branding purposes.  This is the first time that the Olympic Games have been postponed and rescheduled, rather than cancelled.  The Summer Paralympics will be held between August 24 and September 5, 2021 after the Olympics.

The 2020 Games sees the introduction of new competitions including 3x3 basketball, freestyle BMX, and madison cycling, as well as further mixed events.  Under new IOC policies, which allow the host organizing committee to add new sports to the Olympic program to augment the permanent core events, these Games see karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding make their Olympic debuts, as well as the return of baseball and softball for the first time since 2008.
