On Thursday October 28, a signing ceremony for three new projects took place at the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe.  The grant contracts were signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, and representatives of the recipient organizations.

According to Japan’s Embassy, the total grant of the Government of Japan for the projects amounts to 325,763 U.S. dollars.


The three new projects, funded under the scheme of Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), are;

“The Project for Construction of Primary School in Tagi Chinor Village, Guli Surkh Jamoat, Istaravshan City” for the amount of 89,866 USD was reportedly signed with Mr. Adham Mamouroda, Mayor of Istaravshan City;

“The Project for Construction of School No.35 in Boghiston Village, S. Turdiyev Jamoat, Hamadoni District”, for the amount of 132,746 USD was signed with Mr. Bozorali Odinazoda, Chairperson of Hamadoni District;

“The Project for Construction of Medical Point in Burma-2 Village, Sultonobod Jamoat, Roudaki District”, for the amount of 103,151 USD was signed with Mr. Azizullo Ismatzoda, Chairperson of Roudaki District.

During the ceremony, Mr. Miyashita made a following remark: “To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of State Independence of Tajikistan, I am pleased to sign documents for 2 additional schools and one medical point today.  Education and Health sectors are always our priority areas of cooperation with Tajikistan. I hope these projects will be completed according to the schedule and contribute to the development of the country. ”

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 437 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$35.8 million has been provided since 1996.
