On Saturday May 28, the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan (SCO) conducted a table tennis tournament devoted to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations of Switzerland and Tajikistan.
Employees from the embassies of 10 countries as well as their friends and families who are enthusiastic about table tennis gathered in the gymnasium of the Modern International School of Dushanbe.
For the first time representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Industry and New technology of Tajikistan, the Committee for Emergency Situation and Civil Defense of Tajikistan participated in the tournament.
Concerning the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Tajikistan in 2022, a high level of the bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries was noted by Salome Steib, Director of the SCO in Tajikistan . In addition, she emphasized that sport is a unique and important connective tissues that binds people together. “Uniting people is very important in these challenging time” –she noted.
The following teams were recognized as the winner of:
1st place: UN Tajikistan’s team
2nd place: the USA Embassy in Tajikistan
3rd place: the Swiss Cooperation office in Tajikistan
The special prize as “the best winner” was given to Salimov Hakim (UN team).
This year the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan marks 30th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Tajikistan. Over the last 30 years, Switzerland allocated around 500 million USD in the form of grants to the Government of Tajikistan and the Tajik population. Within its Cooperation program for Central Asia (2022-2025), Switzerland will focus on supporting economic, social and democratic development, promoting an integrated and regional approach in the complex field of transboundary water management, strengthening economic ties and promoting good governance.
