In a statement delivered at the international conference on Afghanistan in Tashkent, US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mr. Thomas West, noted on July 26 that Washington is ready to discuss with Taliban the issue of unfreezing Afghan money, Afghanistan International TV says.   

At the same time, he reportedly noted that through dialogue with the Taliban, international institutions must be assured of transparency in this area.

Mr. West  explained that although his country has disagreements with the Taliban,  with the approach of winter the people of Afghanistan will face even greater problems.  

“For this reason, the United States, the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, is ready to conduct negotiations with Afghanistan on releasing frozen funds of this country,” U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan noted.  

US Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights, Ms. Rina Amiri, also delivered a statement at the conference in Tashkent, according to Afghanistan International TV.  Her statement reportedly focused on supporting demands of the Afghan people for the education of girls, fundamental rights of women and political stability.

During the conference, the U participate in the International Conference on Afghanistan.  U.S. delegation joined the international community to underscore the U.S. unwavering support for the Afghan people and to call on the Taliban to fulfill their commitments to the Afghan people and the international community. 

The US Department of State noted on July 25 that Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson will join Special Representative West on July 27 for a meeting with the Taliban to address the economic challenges faced by the Afghan people.

At the time of the fall of the former government of Afghanistan, the United States has reportedly frozen more than 9 billion US dollars in assets belonging to Afghanistan’s Central Bank (Da Afghanistan Bank).
