Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that he will soon meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to resolve the Syria crisis.
"I will hold a meeting with the Russian president on the situation in Syria in the near future," the Iranian presidential press service quotes Pezeshkian as saying, according to TASS.
He reportedly added that Tehran and Moscow would do their utmost to facilitate efforts to stabilize the situation in Syria.
Pezeshkian said during phone talks with Putin on December 2 that the current rise in terrorist activities in Syria was part of a dangerous plan developed by Israel and the US in order to create instability in the Middle East. The Iranian president highly appreciated Russia’s role in maintaining peace in the region and Syria’s territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, IRNA reported yesterday that President Pezeshkian said in a televised interview on Monday evening while elaborating on activities and policies of the 14th government in its 100 days in office that the Syria crisis needs to be resolved through diplomacy as the leaders and officials of the four countries, Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syria, are set to hold talks and meetings under the Astana peace process.
