A 24-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, Isroiljon Kurbobov, planned to carry out a terrorist attack at a concert by Russian variety artist of the spoken genre, TV presenter and resident of comedian program Comedy Club Pavel Volya in Pyatigorsk, Telegram channel Baza reported.

According to Baza, the suspect is allegedly a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) terror group and was preparing a terrorist act during Pavel Volya’s concert at the "Sofia" House of Culture in Pyatigorsk.

The performance, scheduled for April 16, was canceled just hours before it was set to begin.

The channel reports that Kurbobov intended to set fire to the House of Culture during the concert, for which he had prepared three Molotov cocktails.  A week before the event, the man took photos and videos of the building to plan the attack.

It was noted that Kurbobov received instructions for the attack through a messenger from his handler, who went by the nickname “Ayub.”

TASS reported on April 16 that an individual preparing the terrorist attack in one of Pyatigorsk's leisure centers was detained by the FSB, but the person's name was not disclosed.

"The FSB prevented a terrorist attack in Pyatigorsk and detained its organizer, a Central Asian native who is a member of an international terrorist organization.  This was reported to TASS by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of Russia," the news agency wrote.

The investigation department of the FSB of Russia for the Stavropol Territory has instituted criminal proceedings under two articles of Russia’s Penal Code: Article 30 (1) -- preparations for a crime and attempted crimes (the looking for, manufacturing, or adapting by a person of means or instruments for committing a crime, the finding of accomplices for a crime, the conspiracy to commit a crime, or any other intentional creation of conditions to commit a crime shall be deemed preparations for a crime, unless the crime has been carried out owing to circumstances outside the control of this person); and Article 205 (2) – act of terrorism.  An investigation is under way.
