DUSHANBE, November 7, Asia-Plus - 11 of 33 cotton-growing districts in Tajikistan have fulfilled their cotton targets and some of them are continuing to gather cotton in addition to their obligations.  Among them are districts, whose targets have been determined from 500 to 28,800 tons of cotton.   

According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ayni district has produced its targeted 500 tons of cotton and had gathered an additional 50 tons (110%), Hissor district that has pledged to produce 11,000 tons of cotton over-fulfilled its target by 4.8 percent, Ghonchi with a target of 1,000 tons of cotton over-fulfilled its obligation by 2 percent, Vahdat (6,300 tons of cotton) over-fulfilled its target by 9.2 percent, Rudaki (its target has been determined at 6,700 tons of cotton) over-fulfilled its obligation by 4.1 percent, Shahrinav (5,500 tons) over-fulfilled its obligation by 1.3 percent, Bokhtar (28,800 tons) over-fulfilled its target by 8.9 percent, Shahritus (13,200 tons) over-fulfilled its target by 1 percent, Kulob (9,700 tons) over-fulfilled its obligation by 5.2 percent and Danghara (6,000 tons) over-fulfilled its obligation by 4.5 percent.   

Tursunzoda, Mastchoh and Zafarobod districts are also nearing fulfillment of their cotton targets, the MoA source said.  

According to the MoA, districts subordinate to the center (central Tajikistan) have yielded 47,800 tons of cotton by November 7, over-fulfilling their target of 46,700 tons of cotton by 2.5 percent. 

Cotton growers in Khatlon have yielded 252,500 tons of cotton to this day, which is 76.8 percent of the targeted 329,000 tons.

The northern province of Sughd has pledged to produce 171,300 tons of cotton this year.  Sughd has gathered 130,000 tons of cotton by November 7, which is 75.6 percent of the target.

The republic has yielded 430,300 tons of cotton by November 7, which comprises 78.7 percent of this year’s target determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.
