DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus - The present Tajik-British relations are friendly, though there is a considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries, a source at the Tajik MFA said. 

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the Great Britain were established 15 years ago, January 15, 1992, according to the MFA information department.  

The source noted that legal foundation of Tajik-British relationship is still at the stage of formation.  He added, that trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the Great Britain has been expanding actively over the past two years.  

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), a trade between the two countries in 2005 amounted to $7,936,800.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to the Great Britain estimated at 1,345,800 and Tajikistan’s imports from the Great Britain worth $6.591 million.  In January-November 2006, a trade between the Tajikistan and the Great Britain amounted to $13,239,400.  Tajikistan’s exports amounted to $972,500 and Tajikistan’s imports from the Great Britain amounted to $12,466,900.

Five Tajik-British joint ventures currently operate in Tajikistan.
