The results of the visit of President Emomali Rahmon once again confirmed a special character and great prospects for the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said, while making a joint statement for mass media with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, according to Kazinform

“Our priority objective is to strengthen trade and economic interaction.  Thanks to joint efforts, last year the bilateral trade amounted to US$1.4 billion.  We have agreed to take additional steps to further boost mutual trade to at least US$2 billion,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was cited as saying.

Alongside, the Kazakh leader reportedly noted this figure might increase in certain conditions.

"Kazakhstani producers are ready to boost their exports to Tajikistan in 60 items to the total amount of 140 million US dollars.  Our country may ramp up supply of a wide range of goods to Tajikistan – from food stuffs to railway components and rolling stock.  Promising contracts can be signed by Kazakh Export, whose services are in a wide demand in the CIS countries.  I am confident that Tajik business has huge reserves for enhancing its exports to Kazakhstan,” Tokayev added.

It is to be noted that over the first three months of this year, Kazakhstan has been the second major trading partner of Tajikistan following Russia.

According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan over the first three months of this year has valued at 310,383,500 US dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Kazakhstan estimated at 93,436,200 US dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan worth 216,947,300 US dollars.

Last year, the bilateral trade between the two countries reportedly valued at 1,441,181,200 US dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Kazakhstan estimated at 483,915,400 US dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan worth 957,265,800 US dollars.
