DUSHANBE, November 9, Asia-Plus - An international two-day conference on the UN model is opening at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe today, at 9:00 a.m.
The conference staged by the Debates Program of the Tajik Branch of the Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) in cooperation with International Debate Education Association (IDEA) aims to facilitate development of innovative and exciting components to ensure a wide range of young Tajiks have the opportunity to engage in the Model UN experiences.
Rukhshona Olimova, coordinator of the Media Program at the Tajik Branch of OSI/AF, said that the conference will give young Tajiks the opportunity to imitate the UN activity – discussions at the UN General Assembly and Security Council – and get skills of participating in debates and conducting discussions by international standards. According to her, during two days teenagers will imitate permanent and non-permanent (with year of term''s end) members of the UN Security Council.
Trainers from the Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Kyrgyzstan, tenth- and eleventh-form pupils and first- and second-year students from higher educational institutions of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, as well as representatives from Tajikistan’ Ministry of Education and teachers from schools and higher educational institutions of Tajikistan are taking part in the conference’s work.
