DUSHANBE, November 22, Asia-Plus -- A seminar formally titled “Development of Parliamentary Budgeting Strategy: International Experience and Situation in Tajikistan” has opened at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe today.  

According to the UNDP Dushanbe Office, The event, staged by the UNDP CO Tajikistan jointly with the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) under financial support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), has brought together representatives from the Tajik parliament, international and local experts to discuss issues related to interaction between three branches of power, role of parliamentary committees and efficient implementation of their various functions, process of preparation of national budget, role of the government in a process of budgeting, process of preparation and cooperation between the legislative and executive branches of power, social, economic, political, regional and gender elements of budgeting and analysis, skills necessary for drawing up a budget and assessing its efficiency, utilization and monitoring of the budgetary process           

            The seminar participants are also expected to discuss the issues of participation and cooperation in coordinating the budget development strategy, role of regional and local authorities, role of civil society and media in drawing up a budget.
