DUSHANBE, January 12, Asia-Plus -- Prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) were major topic of a meeting of Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrkhon Zarifi with Mr. Munir Merali, Resident Representative, AKDN Tajikistan, that was held in Dushanbe on January 10, according to the Tajik MFA.
In the course of the talks the two discussed a progress of implementation of a number of AKDN-supported projects in Tajikistan. They, in particular, considered issues related to construction of campus of the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Khorog, new bridges, as well as world-class Serena Hotel and the Ismaili Center in Dushanbe.
Founded and guided by His Highness the Aga Khan, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) brings together a number of development agencies, institutions, and programs that work primarily in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa. AKDN is a contemporary endeavor of the Ismaili Imamat to realize the social conscience of Islam through institutional action. AKDN agencies conduct their programs without regard to the faith, origin or gender.
