DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday February 6, the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe signed the grant-contract with international NGO ACTED for the Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Project formally titled “The Project for the Reconstruction of School # 11 in Shaymak Village, Tokhtamish Jamoat, Murgab District,” press release issued by the Japanese Embassy said.
Grant total for this project is $85,792.
The school is located in the village of Shaymak, some 14 kilometers of Murgab’s administrative center. It is framed by the border of Afghanistan and China. The school collapsed due to aging of the building and heavy rain in 2006, so that currently students are taking classes at dormitory, and therefore many students from remote areas are forced to sleep out of dormitory for instance distant relative’s house or acquaintance’s house, press release said.
The project aims to assume relevant education and living condition of students as well as teacher’s working condition in Shaymak, which is geographically and economically isolated from other part of Tajikistan.
Until now, Japan’s Government has supported several projects through ACTED. “The project for the support to animal breeding and water supply system in Murgab District was successfully implemented,” press release said.
Under the Grant Assistance fro Grass Roots Human Security Project the Government of Japan has extended to the total grant of $13,689,128 for 215 projects to support a variety of humanitarian and development activities in Tajikistan since 1996.
