DUSHANBE, September 10, 2008, Asia-Plus -- A scientific conference dedicated to the 60th birthday of Professor Ibrohim Usmonov was held at Tajik National University on September 10.
Professor Asadullo Sadulloyev gave a paper, entitled “Ibrohim Usmonov Is Researcher of Tajik Journalism” at the conference.
Collection of statements by Tajik politicians, researchers and journalists about Professor Usmonov, entitled “Ozodamard” (Noble Person), was presented during the conference.
Professor Ibrohim Usmonov, 60, was born in the village of Ponghoz in Sughd’s Asht district. He has scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences in History.
In 1994, he headed the State Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting. In February 1995, he was elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament). In 1995-1996, Usmonov was the State Adviser to the Tajik President for Social Matters. In 2000, he was elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon. From December 2000 to January 6 2004, he was Deputy Education Minister. From January 6 2004 to 2006, he was Deputy Minister of Culture.
Professor Usmonov has been member of Tajik Journalists’ Union since 1974 and since 1993, he has been member of the board of the International Association of Journalists.
